the mittens are knitted bottom up. first you knit a long tube in the round, before this is folded down and knitted together with the cast on edge. after knitting a few rows, the work is inverted. later, we set aside and cast on sts for the thumb. the work is continued in the round until the mitten is long enough. yarn is pulled through all the sts at the top. the hat is knitted in the same way, except for the thumb.
gauge: 16 sts x 24 r in stockinette after blocking on 5.5 mm needles, measuring 10 cm x 10 cm.
